Step 1: choose your sport and league
Different leagues have specific bat certification requirements. Make sure you choose a bat that's approved for your player's league.

USA baseball bats
USA Baseball bats are used in most recreational youth leagues for ages 6–12. These bats meet specific performance standards designed for safety and fair play.

USSSA baseball bats
USSSA Baseball bats are commonly used in travel or select baseball leagues. These bats often feature advanced technology for increased performance.

BBCOR baseball bats
BBCOR Baseball bats are mandatory for middle school, high school, and college players. They feature a drop weight of -3, ensuring a wood-like performance standard.

Fastpitch softball bats
Fastpitch Softball bats are specifically designed for softball players in youth and travel leagues, optimized for the larger, softer softball.
Step 2: find the right bat size by age
Age, height, and strength are key factors in determining the appropriate bat size. Use these general recommendations to guide your choice.

Ages 6-8
For players aged 6–8, we recommend bats between 26–28 inches with a drop weight of -12 or -10. This size helps develop proper swing mechanics.

Ages 9-10
Players aged 9–10 typically benefit from bats between 28–30 inches with a -10 drop. This size offers a good balance of control and power as they grow.

Ages 11-12
For players aged 11–12, 30–31 inch bats with a -10 or -8 drop are often ideal. This provides more power as players develop strength.

Ages 13 and older
For baseball players 13 and older, BBCOR bats (31–34 inches, -3 drop) are standard. Softball players continue using fastpitch bats, optimizing for the larger ball.
Balanced vs. end-loaded bats

Balanced bats
Balanced bats have an even weight distribution, making them feel lighter and easier to swing. They are ideal for younger players and contact hitters who prioritize faster swing speed and bat control.

End-loaded bats
End-loaded bats have more weight concentrated towards the barrel, which can generate more power. These bats are often preferred by stronger hitters looking to maximize their distance and exit velocity.

Bat size chart
Bat length can also be estimated by a player's height. Use this as a general guideline to find a starting point for bat selection:
- Players around 4'0" might use 26–27 inch bats.
- Players around 4'6" might use 28–29 inch bats.
- Players around 5'0" might use 29–30 inch bats.
- Taller players might use 31–32 inch bats or longer.
Please note: This is a general guideline. Personal preference and strength also play a role.
